NEW DELHI: Intelligence Bureau chief Syed Asif Ibrahim on Friday praised India-Tibetan Border Police for conducting police games in a very professional manner. As chief guest of the cloasing ceremony of the 2nd All India Police Archery Championship (AIPAC) at Service and Supply (S.S.) Battalion in Narela, Ibrahim also congratulated ITBP for bagging 14 gold medals and topping the medals tally.
The ITBP hosted the 2nd edition of the championship scheduled between February 17 to February 21.
Describing the history of the police games in India, Ibrahim said that AIPAC is one of the examples of how sports activities in police forces in India is improving.
Speaking on the occasion, Subhas Goswami, DG ITBP, elaborated the importance of sports, specially archery, in ITBP and said that the force is committed to excel in national and international level archery events.
The first All India Police Archery Championship was held at Ranchi. In this second edition of the Championship, a total of 201 players of 17 teams of various Central Armed and State Police Police Forces took part. Various events like team championship, Indian Round (Men & Women), Compound (Men & Women), Recurve (Men & Women) Rounds were organized. ITBP had prepared a special Sports Village in the S.S. Bn for the players in which all requirements of the archers were looked after.
After completion of all events of the championship, ITBP retained its title by leading the medals Tally with 14 gold medals. Assam Police with 6 gold and Jharkhand Police with 4 gold medals positioned themselves at 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Out of total 17 participating teams, only 10 managed to win medals. The men's championship trophy was won by ITBP while the women's championship trophy was won by Assam Rifles.
